I'm a final year and being investment management student at Concordia University. I'm also apparently working full time as equity research analyst at a large Canadian pension fund here in Montreal. Today I'm going to talk about why I chose Concordia to do my MBA, what my experience has been like so far and also give you some insight about what it's like to live, work and study in Montreal. Uh, you hopefully give some idea on what to do in your next 23 years and for your future career. So if you're ready to go, let's get right into it. I was born in China, but pretty much grew up here in Montreal, actually graduated from Concordia University for my undergraduate degree, where I majored in accounting. The first job I got after graduation was a sales role within a retail banking environment, where I was responsible for bringing new customers to the branch and helping them set up mortgages and with their investment plans. I really enjoy the social aspect of the job, but I was looking for a role that would better satisfy my intellectual curiosity. Uh, something like rolling asset management or really anything related to capital markets. Um, but I also knew that this kind of role is extremely hard to get. So I first started by signing up for the CF exam until I realized that Canada actually has the world's highest CF HR holder per capita. So even people with your free destinations have a hard time finding thes kind of roles. Eso This is when I stumble upon this program that actually offers the dual designation. That for sure, I thought would give me an edge to find the job I was hoping for. Yes, you still have your regular MBE classes like HR marketing or strategy. The program is specifically designed to help student pass all three levels of C F A exam and equip them with the tools and skills needed for future career in finance. I really like about this program is that were set up in small groups of around 30 to 40 people composed of people from different backgrounds and nationalities on that really forces us to adopt Mawr International and open mind set on top of the regular classes. The faculty also organized a special events such as financial modeling classes, uh, database tutorials and also exclusive networking events with employers to allow our students to. We'll have more of one on one kind of interaction with the employers Now. At the time of my application, I really didn't have much work experience. I mean, I did work part time during my undergraduate degree in cells and customer service related roles, but I was only eight months in my full time role as a banking adviser. I think what attracted me the most about the program was that all the work experience was highly recommended. It is not required to get accepted, and that's because the schedules air designed so that students can choose toe, work full time and gain work experience while simultaneously completing their N B. In two or three years. It means that you eliminate the opportunity cost of having to sacrifice for income to U. N. B. A and years of experience, you could have earned as well, and to sweeten things on top of that, the G Man is also wait for students who completed their CFE Level one exam. Concordia Career Management Center is also a very valuable resource for MBA Student actually have agreement with a whole wide range of employer that the student want to get into. That includes the doctor, consulting firms in the world, the big force investment banks as management firms and even a graduate leadership program. A Fortune 500 actually landed my first MBA internship opportunity in consulting at a Big Four with the help of career management services. To be honest in the first one was actually pretty tough. The attractiveness of my CV just snowballed from there, and I have the chance to intern afterwards in commercial banking and in M and A before landing my current role as a equity research analyst. I think employers really appreciate the quality of students coming out of this program because become Oppa's very hard working and dedicated. That's because a lot of us are concurrently working full time and studying for the C F A exams and doing the M B A. At the same time, I have to admit to be doing everything at once is extremely challenging and time consuming. I think it's very enriching as well because for, in my example, was able to bridge the learning from a clause discussions to the workplace and vice versa, which was really accelerated. Now you acknowledge me vary here because I was very lucky to have gotten internship there directly related to my class curriculum. I think it really prepares you for the reality of the future career in finance, especially on the sell side where long hours like 70 to 100 hours a week is very common.
