Everyone in Spree, and today we're going to be talking about academics here at Houghton. Like I said in my first video, I am a psychology major and who in is a liberal arts college? Which means that while you two classes inside of your major, you also take classes outside of your major as a psych major, my workload is fairly manageable. I think it's not too busy, but you still do get a rigorous education moving from high school to college. Um, it was a bit different because I had been running mostly M l A format papers, but since I'm a psych major, I had to transition and training mostly E p papers. Eso I just had to learn a little more about what those papers look like. What reference lists look like in those papers? How much took a little bit of time, But it's something I am very for what now? And that's because my professors here I'm actually had a few projects so that we could get used to this format because I knew that, you know, high school students wouldn't be as familiar with this format of paper, which is really helpful for me, Andi, I have carried on what I've learned from those specific projects into my class is now in my junior year, which is really great. Really great thing about it is that while we want you to do well academically and to really learn, we also want you to be able to get out of your college education. What, you want to do something like sports? Um, if you want to be in a music program, we want you to be able to do that. In order to do this, we try to make sure that students workloads aren't too, you know, unmanageable in any way. My Is it at all? As I've said since it is my junior, it is getting a little busier because I'm taking a few harder classes, more credits per semester. Um, but I'm still able to do things I want to have still able to hang out with friends on campus on, but to do all these fun things, a really great thing that I've noticed is that if my workload seems to be too much for me and I just can't take it all, um, professors are really understanding, especially during this Cupid season. Um And so if you go and talk to them, have an honest conversation, Um, some will give out extensions, Some will be very graceful with you, and some will help you out in any way they can. I've had a lot of professors who really want students to reach out to them, um, and ask them any question they may have on homework or in a project, anything like that. The students a zit can be, and they really want to see home students thrive. Another big difference between high school classes and college classes are that high school classes seem to be more surface level. Um, whereas college classes seemed to be just really going depth on a topic which, personally, for me, I really like, Um, instead of just learning generics, I like to really learn about the details. So as a psych major, I obviously have a very big interest in psychology. I have been able to take different classes on different aspect off psychology and detail that I really didn't get in my general psychology course in high school um, so that's been very helpful and exciting for me. Another differences, of course, there is, uh, more work in college. The really great thing is, your professor seemed to be even more involved in what you do. A really great thing you're hoping is that professors all find ways to incorporate their faith in tow What they teach, um, which for me is something that I was looking for in colleges and something you don't find very easily, right? Really interesting to see how, um, faith is not something that should be just separate from everything else in your life. How it can be integrated into your education and how your faith should be relevant in all areas of your life. My advice to someone who is considering being a psych major is to go for it. Psychology is just such an interesting topic on bear. There's just so much that you can learn about and so much you could do with that. Um, whether you would like to be a practitioner or research psychology, it's just so interesting, and it's not too much of a workload. It's just the perfect amount. Uh, so I hope that you will join me as a fellow psychology major. So this has been my video on the academic review, thanks to certain.
