Classroom Environments & Professor Relationships

Classes are usually lectures as an incoming freshman, but the more higher level classes a student takes, the smaller and more personable the class becomes. Lectures are also personable because they can incorporate group work during the lecture, they can ensure understanding through recitations and they can create a sense of larger community. Depending on the classes you take, the size will differ all across the board, but mostly they will be a faculty-student ratio of 1:17. In addition, building good relationships with professors (who are extremely cool people) is crucial because it is likely in the future that you will need letters of recommendation, therefore showing up to class and introducing yourself briefly or attending office hours can be very helpful to starting the beginning of a great relationship!
