Today we're gonna talk a little bit about classes, including the size. Maybe talk a little bit about professors so you can get the feel of what it's like to be a really student here at UVM and what actual academics are like. So to start off, we have three different types of classes have our seminar classes, which is about 10 to 20 students, and that's usually a discussion based class thing. We have traditional classes about 20 to 40 students, more like a class you might have had in high school. So the largest lecture we have here, a TPM. It was 295 students, which seems crazy. Those labs are usually about 10 to 20 students, and those happened for most lecture classes. To those science classes in computer science classes, stuff like that, you'll have a big lecture a few times a week and then usually a lab once a week with a smaller group of students. So while that lecture that I just mentioned seems like a lot of people, that's really rare. 80% of our classes here IBM are 40 people are less, and 50% of our classes are 20 people or less. So 16 students to one professor, usually on average. Another important part is that 98% of our classes are professor taught, so you're not going to be having a graduate student teach you calculus. You'll have a professor who has the highest degree in their field, So I think that's really important because really getting taught by the best of the best. So speaking of professors, what what are classes? Like one of the relationships with professors? Definitely a good question, you know? So as I mentioned, the professors here, UVM have the highest degree in their field. Professors here are so passionate and really love what they dio one of my professors actually named Jenny. UPM. What I love about being a part of this university community is I really feel where a community we can have all sorts of different interests and ideas. I also really love the fact that students who come here will say that they feel accepted that you could be different. I really, really hope that you get a chance to explore our campus and our university. So after hearing that, I hope you can tell that the professors really do love working here, which makes classes just so much better because you don't want someone who doesn't wanna be there, right? Aunjanue is my professor. My first semester of college, and she really made the class into a community. So with our small classes, it's really easy to make those connections with professors. Actually, one cool story about a professor that my friend Jack had nearing the end of the semester. The professor actually took all of his students to a coordinates and pumpkin patch. So I think that just really shows the community that the professors really feel like they wanna build. I think it's been really helpful having such great professors during our virtual learning right now. Having such great professors really make school fun. For example, in one of my classes, I actually met with sophomores from all over the state of Vermont to talk to them about college. We had to design lesson plans for that day to talk to the sophomores with So and it was really interesting and really cool to be able to put our learning into practice. So you really get right into your field, which is great because it tells you if you like that field or not, and you're also getting just so much more experience than many others. That's because all of these classes are linked to the experiential learning and service learning Some of the things that I've done in classes or something I would have signed up to do for fun with a club. Yeah, so I've just talked on and on about classes. Of course, there are classes going on when I show you them, so you'll just have toe. This was a $1 million facility, and it was actually just recently added, so the professors actually had to say and how it was built. Lecture halls, lab areas, offices all inside this building, and the professors were able to design all of those places in order. You're in really just adds on to that learning. You may think, Well, I'm not a stem major, so that's saying, Why, why I'm not talking about this? We have 90% of our first years actually have classes, even though it's the same building, it still has those different classrooms. Of course, most students do have to take a math or science credit while they're here, which might take place in one of these buildings. So while we're here standing in front of some labs which are right behind me, I'll talk a little bit about the research that does go on here. So all of our professors have to be involved in research, and what's great about that is that they're always needing assistance. Research comes in different ways, so I will actually be starting research next semester looking at proficiency based learning how it effects students not just their great but their mental well being. So I think that's a really great part about you being, especially with that lower graduate population really having so many unique opportunities, you know, here we have the connection with their professors, but we also have all the resource is being a state school and being a small school.
