Applicants must be high school students in grades 9-12 residing in one of the five New York City boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens) and must create a children's book that discusses the topics of tolerance and diversity.

Applicant must have an interest in journalism and in using talent for campus organization/publication and must submit writing samples.

Applicant must be in the graduate MFA Writing and Poetics program. Selection is based on a demonstration of creative and academic excellence as assessed in their admissions application. Brief statement describing interest in and familiarity with writers from diverse ethnic backgrounds is required.
