Freshman applicant must rank in the top quarter of their class, have a minimum 2.7 GPA and minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 850. Applicant must have a minimum 'B' average and a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1000. Selection is based upon academic achievement and teacher or principal nomination.

Applicant must be a member of NYS Grange.

Applicant must be younger than 32 years old as of the deadline and be able to receive academic credit for their activity in Germany. Demonstrated interest in Germany and German culture/studies is required.

Applicant must be a junior at time of application and have completed a minimum of four semesters of college German or have proven language proficiency. Demonstrated interest in Germany and need to learn German, as well as a personal statement, will be considered.

Applicant must have at least two years of undergraduate study completed. Graduating seniors enrolled in graduate program may apply.

Specific fields of study required.

Applicant must be a graduating senior or graduate student who is admitted to a German institution or prove established contact.

Applicant must have concluded studies in home country with a degree and be able to prove necessity of study in Germany.

Applicant must be a full-time graduate student who has completed three semesters of college German or equivalent in language proficiency.

Applicant must be enrolled in specific major in master's or PhD program in North America. German language requirements might be applied.

Applicant must be a United States citizen and recent Ph.D. candidate or Ph.D. recipient within the last two years.

Grant includes visit to Germany for 10 to 15 students organized by a faculty member for seven to 12 days. Must be arranged entirely by home institution and have a meaningful relationship to the curriculum.
