Applicants must be graduate students or professionals pursuing research study pertaining to the educational success of African American students. Students must provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member who will provide oversight for their research. Applicants must submit a proposal clearly outlining their research.

Applicants must be legal residents of the U.S. who are at least 18 years of age and be currently enrolled or enrolling in an accredited post-secondary institution. Students must write an essay pertaining to the given prompt as part of their application materials.

Applicant must be an incoming first-year student. Minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1100 (minimum composite ACT score of 24) and minimum 3.0 GPA required or minimum 3.25 GPA required of students who apply as test optional.

Applicant must be a full-time student who is able to demonstrate significant academic achievement above and beyond the average academic profile of a student admitted in the university's freshman class. Minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1350 (composite ACT score of 31) required in order to receive consideration.

Applicant must be a high school senior with an average 3.8 GPA and average combined SAT Reasoning score of 1177 (composite ACT score of 26).

Selection is based upon academic achievement and standardized test scores.

Applicant must be an incoming student with a minimum 3.5 GPA and minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1680 (composite ACT score of 25).

Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1920 in critical reading, math, and writing (composite ACT score of 29).

Applicant must be an incoming freshman student.

Applicant must have a minimum 3.4 GPA, and a combined SAT score of 1590 (composite ACT score of 23.

Applicant must be a high school senior with an average 3.8 GPA and average combined SAT reasoning score of 1294 (composite ACT score of 29).

Applicant must be an incoming first-year student with two of the following: rank in the top 10% of high school class, minimum SAT Reasoning score of 1200 (composite ACT score of 24), and/or minimum 3.75 GPA. Essay may also be required.

Maximum award is given to National Achievement, National Hispanic, or National Merit finalists.
