Hey all my name is T. J. Hensley. I'm a junior at Georgetown College, I'm a double major in political science and philosophy and I'm here to tell you about the Oxford honors program. Uh I'm actually in Oxford right now studying, I just finished my first tutorial meeting for the week and have another for tomorrow, so I'm glad that I have a chance to tell you all about this experience from right here where you're hoping to be one day. Uh So the Oxford honors program application is separate from your application to study at Georgetown College as an undergrad. Our Oxford program is one of our programs of distinction and so it provides a really close knit community with other people who will also be studying to go to Oxford. So you have a support network of people who you can help too encourage along the way as they will help to encourage you. The separate application can be found on Georgetown's website. As part of the application, you will write an essay where you will address a one of a certain number of pre decided questions that the faculty will have ready for you and once you complete the application for the Oxford honors program, you will either come to campus yourself and interview with the faculty member or perhaps you may do that virtually, but you'll interview with uh one of the professors at Georgetown who will then decide on your application for as far as requirements for the Oxford honors program go. You basically start becoming an Oxford student from the moment that you started Georgetown there are certain classes which every student in the Oxford program is expected to take. Apart from those you can kind of build yourself academically speaking with other classes that are more your choice like within your major or something. Across the board everybody starts the process of learning how to write and think and read like an Oxford student. Uh As you get closer to the point of actually applying to study here at Oxford, you'll take a practice tutorial in which you partner with a professor in the field of study that you want to pursue here at Oxford. That field of study doesn't have to be a part of your major or minor, It can just be something that you're interested in. Um But you will partner with a professor in that field and you will do a practice tutorial which is basically every week for the semester or however long your practice tutorial last you write an essay uh over a reading list that you're professor gives you and then you need to discuss that essay. That's the extent of the practice tutorial at Georgetown. Really the extent of the tutorial here at Oxford. Uh it's a really one on one personal way to learn from an expert in this field at the number one university in the world. So it's a it's an amazing opportunity and experience. I've only been here for two weeks or so and I've loved every single minute of it.
