In this video, I'm going to talk about the Div structure at Hampshire College focusing on what it's like to be a Div II student at Hampshire. Div II comprises the 2nd and 3rd years of college. At the beginning of Div II, you will file yourDiv II contract. Your Div II contract is a 3-4 paragraph outline of what you hope to learn and how you hope to achieve those learning goals in Div II and this will normally change and evolve throughout give to as you take classes and decide to explore new directions. But it's a way for you to enter your Div with intention and when you file the contract, write these 3-4 paragraphs, you will also note the names of the faculty that you would like to have on your Div II committee. These faculty can be the same people that were on your Div I committee or they can be different people that you have met and would like to work with further.In Div II, you can take classes at Hampshire College and in the Five Colleges. You can also incorporate an independent study project, a study abroad experience, an internship. There's many ways to add independent elements into your course of study of Hampshire and Div II is when a lot of that takes place. I transferred here at the beginning of my junior year and transfer students like me are able to use credits and courses from the work they've completed in their former school to fulfill some of their Div II requirements so that they're able to enter Div III at the beginning of the fourth year along with their peers. In addition to the academic requirements, Div II also has aCEL-2 or community-engaged learning requirement. You need 40 hours of CEL-2 credit to pass Div II. CEL-2credit is earned by engaging with the community. In addition to CEL-2,there's also a multicultural engagement requirement which requires you to learn about and engage with cultures rather than your own. Div II is a very rewarding period at Hampshire. You will dive into your academic interests. You will build broad and deep friendships and participate in crazy campus activities.
