I'm a third year student studying dietetics and nutrition at R I. T. Welcome back today, we're gonna be focusing on what it's like living on campus at R i. T. A lot of students come toe our i t having lived in the same bedroom under their parents roof their whole life. So living in a college resident hall is a little bit different oven experience. The rest are low rise resident halls, so the high rise ones are between seven and 12 floors. If elevators and everything on the low rise ones have like 2 to 4 floors, they're all set up. Ah, like a standard hall with rooms lining the edges are lining the size down the hallway. Um, there's a male and female bathroom on all the floors, as well as gender neutral bathrooms. Most of the floors are coed here, so men and women are living in the same resident halls. Most students do choose to live in the standard double room, so you have two beds, two desks and two separate closets in your room so you and your roommate can live there on. Like I said, there's a shared bathroom on the floor. We also do have singles, triples, quads and sweet style options as well. We don't have quite as many of those, but that is an option as well, if you'd rather live in one of those. So the resident halls are really fun toe live in because there's always so many people around. Um, every time you step ahead of your room, you're probably going to see someone you know in your hall. People like to leave their doors open in their resident halls, typically as well. Um, when we're not in the middle of a pandemic, people come in and out of your room. If you do leave your door open, which is kind of fun. We were, um, my roommate and I really liked the show. Big Brother and I think it must have been the finale. A big brother, Um, And so, like, maybe half of the people that lived on my floor all ended up in my room. One night we actually went, um, and got ice cream beforehand as well, and that was super fun. So I really like the social aspect of living in the resident halls. Every floor also has an NRA that's a resident advisor there, like an upperclassman student that's there to help the first year students and anyone living in the resident halls, usually the are is there to help in case there's any conflict or anything are any problems on the floor, But they do host and playing different activities to get to know some of the people on your floor, especially at the beginning of the year. We didn't ice cream social one time, Um, things like that. You actually get to paint your door, which is super cool kind of gives personality almost to the resident Hall, so it's not just a bunch of, um, what indoors When you walk down the hall, there's always, like fun designs. Um, a lot of funny like quotes on the doors, things like that. Then from our resident side of campus, it's just about a 5 to 10 minute walk to get to the academic side of campus. In my opinion, there's one direct walkway that connects the resident halls to the academic side of campus. After your first year as an R. I T student, you are allowed to move either off campus or to a different on campus living area. So we have a bunch of other places, um, that you could live on campus. We also have Reverend all University Commons, Greek Circle Global Village, the right in a bunch of places to live on campus, those air more apartment style. If you'd rather live in one of those, or you could still stay and live in the residence halls So now I'm just gonna take you on a quick little tour of my apartment that I live in now. So it's just gonna be a quick little tour, but I live on the second floor, so you walk in and here's our living room. My roommate and I actually have our desks out in the living room and just gives us a little bit more space in our bedroom. You walk into the hallway and first you hit my room and my roommates room. We have a nice big closet, a lot of drawer space and storage space, and then our beds. You go into the hallway again, and here we have our bathroom again. We have a lot of storage space as well as a lot of counter space in here, which is really nice. We have a coat closet as well as, Ah, another closet with shelves for, like, bathroom stuff, whatever you want.
