How does the legacy of Charles Drew affect my experience? Um for those of you who might not be aware, Charles Drew has a unique history. This is a history that starts in 1965 with a riot in the watts will liberate community. There were many reasons for it, but one of which was lack of access to health care and Charles Drew Medical School and later MLK Hospital were meant to be a solution to this huge need in the community. Because of that uh Drew an MLK have a unique place in the community. That unique legacy plays a very, very big role in the type of interactions that I have with my patients. Every day in in clinics, I play a role with my patients where I am trying to be, Yes, the face of medicine, I am a doctor, I am an M. D. But also someone who can sympathize and sometimes empathize um with the patient in front of me and what they're going through and things that are going on in their environment. Because of that, I'm able to make a connection and be a more effective medical care provider.
