I'm really excited to talk about one of my favorite involvements here at the University of Dayton. I'm in the Pride of Dayton marching band, which is our campus marching band actually joined my sophomore year here. My high school was a little bit too small to even need a marching band. Um, but my roommate, my first year was just constantly on my back saying you've played your instrument, you gotta join pod, you gotta join pod, which is what we call the Pride of Dayton Marching band. She is now currently the Ceo, so she runs the band and I have loved every minute of being in it since my sophomore year when I joined. I think it's by far the most diverse group of students on our campus when it comes to race, ethnicity background, where people are from majors that people have. I think actually close to half the band is made up of engineers. Um and you might think it would be made up of music majors or something like that, but we're really representative of all of you. D um we even partner with Wright State and Sinclair. So nearby universities get to participate in this program, They can send students and come over and play with us and like I said, it's just been such a good experience. Um it's so much fun, it's a really high pitched instrument. Um We definitely cause a lot of earaches for everyone else in the band, but we show up to all the football games we put on really fun shows for people. Um, we just finished a broadway show this past weekend. Um, we have a whole bunch of fun movements, were a crazy bunch of people. If you walk into a room filled with band kids, it's just what you would expect and it's pure chaos. A lot of good music and musicianship, I think it's been so cool to see, especially as a non music major, um, just how important music is to people's education and I think it's really cool that we're able to support these programs still to this day and keep supporting them. Um, one of my favorite parts of band when it comes to the music and the things that we do, um, something called the funk march, which is kind of like our iconic style of parading into the arena. You do some squats and twists and a lot of really high leg kicks, so it's fun to watch. We scream really random things throughout our section. The piccolo's call ourselves the pickles, so we're constantly screaming about eating pickles and, and things like, I'll show you guys My kind of main uniform piece here. Um, we look good, we sound good and we have a lot of fun together. Our band is also even going to Ireland this upcoming spring. Our band is performing in the ST Patrick's Day parade, and I'm so excited for that experience.
