Hidden gem: koi pond

One of UCSC's hidden gems. The Porter Koi Pond is often overlooked as it is literally hidden within the college. The koi pond was brought in the founder of Porter college whose wife loved koi fish. Since then, the koi fish has become an important figure that Porter students relate with. Students come here to enjoy the beautiful colors of the fish, relax between classes, or even feed the fish! Head over to the advising office and ask for some fish food!

Sajia's morning routine + typical lecture hall

Today is my first day of Spring quarter classes! Come along on my morning routine to see a little bit of my daily commute. In this video you will also see a preview of a typical lecture hall. The lecture hall is called the Earth and Marine Sciences lecture hall B206. It holds about 300 people.

This video talks a little about how classes work at UCSC and also shows you another preview of a lecture hall. UCSC runs on a quarter system which means classes run for 10 weeks at a time then we have a break in between. On average, students take 3 classes at a time and then supplemental discussion sections as well. Classes for first and second years are usually always big lectures, but as you declare your major and become more concentrated, you will have classes with no more than 35 students. This lecture hall is called Thimann Lecture hall and holds about 200 students.

Holi festival at ucsc
This video shows UCSC's 5th annual Holi Festival. Unfortunately, I was not able to film an intro because of the dust getting into my camera. However, Holi, known as the Festival of Colors or as the Festival of love, is an ancient Hindu religious festival. The Holi festival has created a positive environment at UCSC during the spring where we can see students celebrating love through colors. Students are seen playfully throwing colored powder up in the air and on other students regardless of their race and ethnicity. The festival has a significance of bringing people together through laughter and bridging the social gap between students on campus. The Holi Festival is sponsored by the UCSC Student Union Assembly, Indian Student Association, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and the Dean of Students Office.

Men's volleyball game day!
In this video I give you a quick tour of Rachel Carson college which is another residential college. In addition, you get a preview of what game days are like at UCSC. UCSC is a D3 school part of NCAA. Although we are not a huge sporting campus, students always show up to support their fellow slugs on game days. The game takes place in the West Field House which is our second gym on campus. Though this gym is a lot smaller in comparison to the Wellness Center on the East side.

Join me and my housemates at my favorite spot to eat at the Rachel Carson cafe. My favorite sandwich from here is called El Luchador--chorizo, chicken, lettuce tomato, onions and cheese! I also talk a little about the meal plans offered on campus.

My fav spot to chill: the infamous porter squiggle

Check out my favorite spot to take a nap between classes or watch the sunset. The Porter Squiggle is famous for its "mysteriousness". Students love to hangout here between classes or take really cool pictures. Try Googling "Porter Squiggle" and see the plethora of creative photos taken here.
