Bay tree bookstore

The Bay Tree bookstore is one of the primary places professors order their textbooks for classes, especially for introductory level classes and the sciences/math. Other professors, especially in the social sciences and humanities, prefer to order their books from the Literary Guillotine downtown. Textbooks are shelved in the upper stairs level, along with the computer center and school supplies. Upstairs we have an authorized Apple Store which is really convenient for students because the closest Apple Store is over the hill in San Jose. The lower level is dedicated mostly to Slugwear, UCSC memorobilia and non-required reading, including books written by many professors at UCSC. The bookstore also has a "dorm central" where they offer anything and everything needed to live comfortably in your dorm room.

Lecture hall #2
Academics
This video talks a little about how classes work at UCSC and also shows you another preview of a lecture hall. UCSC runs on a quarter system which means classes run for 10 weeks at a time then we have a break in between. On average, students take 3 classes at a time and then supplemental discussion sections as well. Classes for first and second years are usually always big lectures, but as you declare your major and become more concentrated, you will have classes with no more than 35 students. This lecture hall is called Thimann Lecture hall and holds about 200 students.

Join me and my housemates at my favorite spot to eat at the Rachel Carson cafe. My favorite sandwich from here is called El Luchador--chorizo, chicken, lettuce tomato, onions and cheese! I also talk a little about the meal plans offered on campus.

Getting my eyebrows done + exploring downtown!
Explore some more of downtown Santa Cruz with me! I stop by to get my eyebrows done at Tonic Salon, which is the best! I was definitely scared to find a new eyebrow lady (if you relate, raise your hand) but Raxa at Tonic Salon has never disappointed. If you're in Santa Cruz and need your eyebrows threaded, this is your spot!

Take a look into one of our dining halls. We have 5 dining halls on campus in which 2 sister colleges share one. Our dining halls are committed to sustainability and zero waste by 2020. Our dining halls offer various options such as vegan, vegetarian and the list goes on. Our dining staff are dedicated to accommodating all students needs. Do you wish your favorite food was served more often? All you have to do is send them an email!

Ways to get around on campus

There are many ways to around on campus. The most popular is walking, but with the terrain of the school, that can get tiring for some. So you can bike, skateboard, or take the bus to your class. Although, the school you pick shouldn't be heavily dependent on whether you have to walk or not.

Cowell college and the ucsc college system
Campus
The college system at UCSC is a little different from other schools. You are affiliated with 1 of 10 colleges of your choosing. Every college has a different theme ranging from Science and Technology to Diversity and Social Justice. It makes a large campus feel smaller and like a community.
